SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — One man is dead after getting hit by a train. 

It happened called to the 4100 block of Ostermeier Road just before 10 Friday night. 

Sangamon County Sheriff's Office says, the Union Pacific freight train was going south and saw the man laying on the west side of the tracks. 

The train was not able to stop in time. 

Deputies say, the 25 year old man from Springfield died before first responders arrived on scene. 

The accident remains under investigation.
