CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - After a shooting last fall near Booker T. Washington Elementary, teachers and students spoke out about student safety. The school's principal and assistant also shared concerns about how the district responded to the shooting. Now, parents say they're being penalized for speaking out.

"The Unit 4 leadership has decided that they want move one of our principals and has given one of our main principals Mr. Roundtree some not great options about what he can expect for next year." said Unit 4 parent, Shawna den Otter.

Before the Unit 4 meeting Monday night, parents and students gathered outside to rally and make boards in honor of the two employees.

"I feel really hurt and betrayed because they really care about my kids and they have really gone the extra mile for my kids in particular. I see them go hard for everybody at BTW every day." said Unit 4 parent, Victoria Valadez.

Now, parents and students are continuing to demand answers from the district while hoping for the best.

"I think the district really needs to know that parents are involved no matter what school it is. It makes no sense to take them. We want to keep them and we want what's best for Unit 4." said den Otter.

There's no vote scheduled on changing the status of the two employees, but WAND will continue to follow this developing story.
