SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — A man from Pike County has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the sexual exploitation of a child.
On Wednesday, April 9, Anthony Westemeyer, 37, from Nebo, Illinois, was sentenced to a 30 year term that will be followed by 5 years of supervised release.
At the sentencing hearing, evidence showed that Westemeyer created a coercive environment involving physical and emotional abuse. He threatened the minor victim into performing sexual acts while he filmed, compensating other men—including co-defendants—for their participation, sometimes without their knowledge of being recorded.
Prosecutors stated that Westemeyer responded with verbal and physical abuse when filming did not succeed. Furthermore, he supplied methamphetamine to lure others, including the minor victim.
U.S. District Judge Colleen R. Lawless found multiple sentencing enhancements applied in the case against Westemeyer, including his role as the leader of the offense and the fact that the minor victim was under his custody.
The judge highlighted the "level of cruelty and abuse" the victim experienced, as well as the "heinous nature" of the crime.
Westemeyer pleaded guilty in July 2024 and has been in custody since his arrest.
The penalties for the crime of sexual exploitation of a child range from 15 to 30 years in prison. In addition to imprisonment, there may be a lifetime period of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000, and various special assessments.
