DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A man was arrested after Macon County deputies said he led officers on a chase and crashed near the Transfer House.Â
Deputies were involved in a short chase in downtown Decatur around 12:45 p.m. Monday. They were trying to stop the driver for expired or suspended registration plates.Â
MCSO said the driver of the vehicle, later identified as John Inman, 40, refused to stop and led deputies on a 5-6 block pursuit.Â
Inman finally stopped at Prairie and Franklin Streets after crashing into a small concrete retaining wall in Central Park. After crashing the vehicle Inman fled from the accident and was captured near the Decatur Public Library.Â
Inman admitted to fleeing because he knew he had outstanding warrants, deputies said. During a search of the vehicle, deputies located a .45 caliber pistol that had the serial number defaced and covered.Â
Inman is being held at the Macon County Jail and charged with Armed Violence, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm with Defaced Serial Number, and Criminal Damage to State Supported Property.Â
Inman was also charged with two Failure to Appear Warrant for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Possession of Methamphetamine.Â
After being booked in the jail the Illinois Department of Corrections issued a warrant for Parole Violations.Â
Inman will have his detention hearing Tuesday afternoon at 1:30.Â
All people charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.Â
