RANTOUL, Ill. (WAND) - A Rantoul man who was arrested in connection with a shooting from 2024 has had his charges dismissed.

Rantoul police arrested Mekhi J. Ross, 20, for aggravated battery with a firearm.

The arrest stems from a shooting on October 28, 2024 that left a 50-year-old man injured.

The shooting happened in the 1100 block of Prairieview Dr. around 11 p.m.

The victim was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Based off witness statements, officers learned the shooting was the result of a prior verbal altercation that happened in the 300 block of S. Century Blvd. Detectives used these witness statements, as well as recovered evidence to connect Ross to the shooting.

In court on April 9, charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated battery were dismissed. Ross's bond was vacated along with a jury trial date that had been set for April 13.
