RANTOUL, Ill. (WAND) — The Rantoul Police Department is searching for a driver who hit a teen in a crosswalk earlier this month.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Jamie Diego-Martin, 41, after an investigation into a hit and run on Nov. 7. A 16-year-old boy was walking in a crosswalk at the intersection of Champaign Ave. (US Rt 136) and Chanute St. when he was hit by a car that continued traveling on Champaign Ave.

The teen was taken to a hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries according to Rantoul PD.

Police used license plate readers and local video surveillance to identify the car used in the crash. Diego-Martin was identified as the as the driver, and officers obtained an arrest warrant on Monday.

The Rantoul Police Department is asking the public for assistance in locating Diego-Martin. Anyone with information on Diego-Martin’s whereabouts is  asked to contact the Rantoul Police Department at 217-333-8911 or Champaign County Crimestoppers at 217-373-TIPS.
