SHELBYVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - A resolution has been introduced to declare September 12 as "The Day of the Bible," in Illinois.

HR 474 was introduced by State Representative Brad Halbrook.

Hallbrook said it would "encourage schools, civic institutions, churches, and community organizations throughout the State to observe this day with appropriate educational, historical, and culture programs and activities that highlight the Bible’s significance in the past, present, and future of our State and nation"

He said, “The Bible has served as a profound influence on both our state and nation since their foundings... The Bible not only serves as a spiritual guide, but a moral guide, helping to shape many of our core American values. In recognizing the Bible’s role in our nation and state’s heritage, we are reaffirming the importance of faith and religion. I encourage all Illinoisans to join me in commemorating September 12th as The Day of the Bible here in Illinois.”

The resolution was filed last week. To follow the status, visit ilga.gov.
