SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The Salvation Army said its Springfield warming center will be open on or before Nov. 1, 2020.

The announcement came from Captain Jeff Eddy in an email to WAND-TV. He said leaders are looking at options for more space outside of the main warming center that would allow for a higher capacity this winter.

The only thing he could share about those options was the news that the Salvation Army building on Clear Lake Avenue won't be considered.

"We will follow CDC guidelines wherever it takes place, (with a) minimum of 6 feet of distance between people and temperature checks, etc.," Eddy said. "If we have to resort to the Madison Street building it will severely limit the number of beds, however Helping Hands has been able to increase capacity, so I think it could be done as a last resort."

Due to a lack of daytime services, Eddy said leaders want to make this warming center a 24-hour location. He added leaders hope to know more details soon.
