SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - New legal filings by the Massey Commission ask the judge overseeing Sean Grayson's murder trial to protect their free speech.
The former deputy, accused of shooting and killing Sonya Massey, filed three motions July 23.
Two motions were requested to introduce new evidence in the case, and the third would effectively put a gag order on the Massey Commission.
Grayson's attorneys said the Commission is tainting the potential jury pool in Peoria by holding events, meetings and creating social media posts for the area.
However, the Commission responded, adding that a blanket gag order would ultimately quote, "set a dangerous precedent."
