DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The storm which blew through Decatur late Friday afternoon tore up trees and branches across the city.

Karl Ziemer cuts up tree limb

Karl Ziemer of Decatur cuts up a tree limb for city tree debris collection on May 19, 2025.

Karl Ziemer spent Monday piling his tree debris along with a neighbor for the city to pick up next week.

Ziemer said his neighbor lets him park his truck in his driveway. So he didn’t mind cutting and stacking branches and limbs.

“That’s what we do. We’re neighbors. We take care of each other,” he told WAND News.

The city will start collecting branches and limbs May 27th. They must be no longer than eight feet in length. The city will NOT collect any other garbage or debris such as fencing or sheds.

Decatur residents who need debris pickup from the city must call 217-875-4820 by Friday, May 23.
