Shelbyville elects new dive team commander

SHELBYVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — The Shelbyville City Council has voted to appoint Austin Pritchard as its new Dive Team Commander.

The city began the process to create its own Dive Team after Shelby County was left without any staff on its team.

"Tonight was another big step towards providing the much needed safety and peace of mind for Shelby County. I am elated to continue this process with the City of Shelbyville. It is encouraging to be able to work with a group of individuals, so willing, to step up and solve a problem facing this county," Pritchard told WAND News.

The city of Shelbyville is also considering leasing a building for its new team. Mayor Jeff Johnson has reached out to the county board about utilizing its dive team equipment, in exchange for offering services in the county. They have not yet received a response.
