DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — On Saturday, the Decatur police helped close to 100 kids get an early start to Christmas with 'Shop with Cop.'

The annual event is a partnership between the Decatur police department and the Decatur school district.

To make the event possible, police raised close to $30,000.

The President of PDPA Unit #39, Jason Danner told WAND News it brings a smile to officers' faces when kids get to pick out a toy.

"They really enjoy it. The Christmas ones, we really get a good group of officers from the department come out, and they enjoy the kids as much as the kids enjoy what's going on here today." said Danner.

DPD has hosted this experience for nearly 20 years.
