DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Every year the Macon County Sheriff's Office hosts 'Shop with the Sheriff' with children in the county to buy a toy for the holidays.
This year, 47 children and their families took part in the event at the Target in Decatur.
The project has been in the works since September, giving children and deputies the chance to build meaningful connections.
Deputy Casner, with the MCSO said the event is brings a smile to everyone, "It's unexplainable, it really is, it is just really nice to see the community policing right now and all of the smiles on the kids' face."
Casner added this is an event deputies look forward to each year.
