SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — With the school year starting Aug. 18, District 186 started off its Back to School Bash by handing out free backpacks packed with school supplies.
Assistant Superintendent of Family, Community and School Leadership Terrence Jordan said dozens of community organizations and vendors came out to help families get ready for the upcoming school year.
"We wanted to make it not just about students, but about families and about educators. So we have resources for everyone—educators, family members, parents and especially our students," Jordan said.
Families who could not make it out to get a backpack or school supplies can contact the district, so staff can help fulfill their needs.Â
In-person registration is being held Monday, Aug. 4, at various locations. It can also be completed online.
