SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Springfield Clinic is laying off an unknown number of workers amid "financial challenges," according to a hospital spokesman.
Chief Brand and Advocacy Officer for Springfield Clinic, Zach Kerker, said in a statement to WAND News that the company has been impacted by rising operational costs, insurance reimbursement issues, and economic challenges.
"These decisions are not made lightly, and we stay deeply committed to providing high-quality health care while ensuring long-term sustainability for our patients, employees and the community we serve."
The company would not disclose how many people were being laid off, what positions were impacted, or at what locations.Â
According to its website, Springfield Clinic has more than 3,000 employees across 90 locations in Illinois. It's a physician-owned, physician-led medical group.Â
Springfield Clinic started in 1939.Â
