Fire at Lincoln Transload and Processing

LINCOLN, Ill. (WAND) - Staff were able to evacuate safely after a fire broke out at Lincoln Transload and Processing in Lincoln.

Lincoln Rural Fire Protection was called out Wednesday just after noon to the facility in the 2200 block of 5th St.

Firefighters found smoke pushing from the top of the tower portion of the building as well as significant smoke inside the ground level and basement level.

They found a fire in the basement level which had also traveled through exhaust and transfer ducts to the upper levels.

A first alarm was requested to bring additional water tankers.

Access to the upper floors was made by Lincoln City utilizing their ladder truck . Due to the extensive amount of duct work leading from the basement, much of the time was spent making sure all remaining fire and hot spots were extinguished.

One firefighter was transported to Lincoln Hospital with heat exhaustion. Logan County EMA responded with a cooling trailer as well as water for firefighters.

Agencies spent over six hours in the heat to get the fire extinguished.
