SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — A ladies Rolex Oyster Watch, a $500 federal reserve note, and silver bars are some of the unclaimed items being auctioned off by State Treasurer Mike Frerichs at the Illinois State Fair next month.
The items being auctioned are mostly from bank safe deposit boxes which went unclaimed for years. The Treasurer's staff then try to track down the owners, and when they can’t the items are liquidated in the auction after 10 years.

Coin and currency collectors may find many items of interest. From gold and silver coins, Indian Head pennies and Buffalo nickels. Football cards from the 90s are also headed to the auction block.
The auction will take place on the Lincoln Aug. 17, 2024 at 11 a.m., with a preview set at 9 a.m. that morning.
