SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — Illinois House Republicans are renewing their push for Democrats to let their affordability plans pass before session ends.

Caucus members say the House should act quickly to suspend the state's sales tax on gas for six months.

Rep. Mike Coffey (R-Springfield) said Illinois should also let families benefit from the federal private school choice scholarship program.

"Donors could give up to $1,700 and receive a tax credit of 100% for that expenditure," Coffey said. "So far 30 states, even the conservative state of New York, have opted in."

House Republicans argue that lawmakers should pass a plan allowing no tax on tips as well. Rep. Bill Hauter (R-Morton) stressed that hard-working people should be able to keep their tips instead of handing them to the state.

All of these plans are locked in the House Rules Committee.
