SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — State representatives voted on a bill Tuesday to waive copays for sexual assault examinations.

The Illinois Sexual Assault Survivor Treatment Act prohibits survivors from being charged for forensic services.

However, House Minority Leader Tony McCombie (R-Savanna) said current state law does not block insurers from charging patients a deductible, co-insurance or copay for examination and testing services.

"This makes sure that victims are not victimized on any level," McCombie said. "I also just want to say thank you for the bipartisan support and the support of Speaker Welch on this bill as well."

House Bill 2805 passed unanimously out of the House. The legislation now moves to the Senate for further consideration.
