SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The Pritzker administration is giving roughly $10 million in grants to 47 small businesses across the state. Gov. JB Pritzker said it is one way Illinois can help businesses affected by tariffs and other economic challenges.

Businesses will be able to use the grants to improve infrastructure, acquire essential equipment, or purchase new property. They can also use the money for planning, land and building acquisition, additions, site improvements and rolling stock.

The governor told reporters in Skokie Friday that the grant program can lift up job creators at the heart of the Illinois economy.

"These merchants sustain quality jobs, anchor downtowns and commercial districts, provide vital goods and services and play an integral role in supply chains," Pritzker said.

Roughly $1.5 million in heading to businesses in our area like Hummingbird Coffee House in Ford County and Bloom Wine Bar & Florals in Springfield.

Recipients are businesses owned by socially or economically disadvantaged people with a maximum of 25 full-time employees or very small businesses with less than 10 employees.

"The small business capital and infrastructure grant is a prime example of the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity's impact in action, uplifting our state's underrepresented communities and small businesses," said DCEO Assistant Director Cameron Joost.

Firefly Farm LLC in Effingham received $230,000 and Mariah's Mums & More will benefit from a $245,000 grant. Mattoon Management Inc. plans to use $245,000 to build a new location for Mark's My Store in Forsyth. MPower Counseling PLLC in Danville also received $245,000.

"They create jobs, yes. But they are also creating spaces where people feel seen, welcome and connected," said Rep. Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz (D-Glenview). "They reflect the diversity, resilience and ingenuity that we come to define and think of when we think of Illinois."

The small business capital and infrastructure grant program was established in 2019. Pritzker said other businesses will have opportunities to get state funding in the future.
