Mugshot of 25-year-old Christian D. Luthy.

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - We are learning more about a deadly shooting where a man said he accidentally shot and killed a woman in Decatur.

Christian Luthy is accused of shooting a woman inside a home in the 1700 block of North Summit Ave. on Valentine's Day.

Decatur police were called to the home around 5:30 p.m. for a report of a person shot inside the home.

Police said Luthy called 911 and reported that he had accidentally shot a woman inside the home.

Court documents obtained by WAND News show Luthy told officers he had been working on an AR15 style rifle while he and the victim, 26-year-old Alexandra Wilson, were seated together in a gaming room.

When he was done working on it, Luthy told police he "jokingly" pointed it at Wilson and pulled the trigger, believing it was not loaded. One round hit her in the torso.

She was taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital, where she later died.

Luthy was later taken to DPD headquarters for questioning. Following the investigation, Luthy was arrested on a charge of involuntary manslaughter.

Luthy is due back in court in March.
