Robert J. Jones Hired as Next Chancellor at UIUC

Urbana- Students at the University of Illinois are excited for the future with new chancellor Robert Jones.

The university introduced Jones to a packed room at the Illini Union. "I think he is the right person for Illinois, the state, for what's going on here and in Springfield. I think he is ready to move forward with Illinois" said Alex Villanueva, student body Vice President.

Villanueva said Jones asked to meet with student leaders the first day he arrived in Illinois, something he says speaks of his commitment to the school. "He's got a packed schedule and for him to say I want to meet with these students right now, right here I think shows a lot about his character."

Other students on campus are excited to see what the next year will hold with Jones, "I was very excited to know that we are getting more diverse as a campus. A little surprised, but mostly excited" said Laura Quincy, a junior at the school, "I'm just excited about looking forward to see what we have in store for next school year."

Spencer Lane, another student at U of I, does not know much about Jones, but he says he is excited to learn about what is he going to do for the school. "As a student maybe I want to see if he changes anything throughout the school or see what motives him really as a chancellor" he said. Adding his time at the school has been great and he thinks Jones can only make it better.

Robert Jones is currently serving as President at the University at Albany, State University of New York. The Board of Trustees will vote to approve him as Chancellor on July 21st.
