Attempted arson charges handed down in bombing investigation

URBANA, Ill. (WAND)- Three Ford County men charged in a multi-state militia crime spree will not go on trial this year.

Michael Hari, Michael McWhorter and Joe Morris are accused of bombing a Minnesota mosque, attempting to bomb a Champaign clinic, targeting rail lines in Illinois and other crimes committed as part of a militia group called the "White Rabbits," according to federal investigators. They face federal charges in both Illinois and Minnesota.

The three appeared in federal court in Urbana Monday morning. Their attorneys asked for a delay, citing ongoing negotiations and motions related to the Minnesota charges. Prosecutors did not object to the request.

The three are now due back in court Jan. 8 for pre-trial hearings, with trial dates set for February.

A fourth man, Ellis Mack, pleaded guilty to related charges in September.
