Two men are dead after an incident on a bus in Mattoon.
The Champaign County Coroner says 22-year-old Justin Sleezer and 22-year-old Cameron Chana died from traumatic head injuries. They were riding on top of a multiple level bus on Route 16, on their way back from a group outing at Lake Shelbyville. The Coroner says the two men stood up as the bus drove under the I-57 overpass, and hit their heads on it.
They were taken to Carle Foundation Hospital's Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Sleezer was pronounced dead shortly after 2:00 a.m. Sunday. Chana, an Eastern Illinois Student, died just more than an hour later. Lincoln Springs Resort in Charleston rents out double-decker buses. Chief Operations Officer David Kirsch would not comment if their bus was involved, but says he wants to "express his sympathy, compassion, and prayers for all the individuals' families and friends".
The Coroner and Mattoon Police are investigating.
