2019 UIS Food Collection

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — College students at the University of Illinois Springfield are hosting their annual trick-or-treat for canned goods to benefit the Central Illinois Foodbank on Sunday, Oct. 27.

Students will collect canned goods by going door-to-door in Springfield, and at the UIS Recreation Athletic Center. from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.

A total of ten teams, 126 students, will cover around 2,440 homes to collect non-perishable foods.

The neighborhoods they will visit recently were given door hangers explaining the project.

All collected items will be weighed, and prizes will be awarded to the teams that collect the most food.

The Central Illinois Foodbank delivers supplies to multiple food pantries, soup kitchens, and residential and after-school programs within 21 counties.

There are also collections at the UIS Cox Children's Center for the on-campus UIS Cares Food Pantry, dedicated to ensuring no student goes hungry.
