CHICAGO (AP) - A 57-year-old woman has Saturday after a dog mauled her on the city's far south side.

The Chicago Tribune reports that a police officer shot and killed the dog Saturday when it charged responding officers.

Authorities say the woman was attacked by a dog described as a pit bull about 2:30 p.m. She was bitten on the neck and throughout the body.

She was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Her name was not released.

Police say the owner of the dog is unknown.
