CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — A former patient has accused a Champaign doctor of leaving half of a fetus inside her body following an abortion.

A woman identified as Jane Doe filed a medical negligence suit against Dr. Keith Reisinger-Kindle and the Equity Clinic in the Circuit Court of Champaign County.

The mother of four said she visited the clinic for an abortion procedure on April 1 and 2 of 2023 when she was around 22 weeks pregnant. The next day, the patient said she called the clinic to report heavy cramping, but was advised to take Ibuprofen or Tylenol. She called again around five hours later saying that "her bottom has a lot of pressure and it is hard to breathe," according to the suit and was advised to take a laxative.

On April 4, she called again and was told to consider going to an urgent care or emergency room. On that same day, she went to Community Hospital South Emergency in Indianapolis, Ind. where she had an exploratory laparotomy.

The suit said that the remains of "half of a deceased pre-born human being" were found in her pelvis as well as pieces of fetal skull stuck to her intestine. Doctors also found that her uterus had been perforated.

A medical report from a board-certified obstetrician gynecologist included in the filing said Reisinger-Kindle “deviated from a reasonable standard of care” in their professional opinion.
