Evening with Champions brings EIU legends back to campus

CHARLESTON, Ill. (WAND) - The legends were back on campus.

For the first time ever, Eastern Illinois University alumni Sean Payton, Mike Shanahan, Jimmy Garoppolo and Tony Romo were back in Charleston at the same time.

"It is a really cool opportunity," said Garoppolo. "It is really hard to get all four of us in the same place at once."

EIU hosted the four legends for an Evening with Champions on Saturday night. Mike Shanahan was the catalyst for the event and Sean Payton was the recruiter.

"I called up the young guys and I said this is QB1 reaching out to QB2 and QB3." said Payton "I didn't identify who was 2 of 3. I just let them fight over it."

Saturday was a night filled with sharing stories and embracing the memories.

"For me the years kind of fly by and your just turning into a taxi cab driver sometimes, " said Romo. "Seeing all the old people, it feels like home again."
