CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Illinois volleyball announced head coach Chris Tamas has signed a contract extension that will keep him with the program through the 2028-29 season.
Tamas enters his 10th season leading the Illini program this Fall following his hiring in February 2017.
During his tenure, Illinois has reached the NCAA Tournament 5 times, including 3 regional appearances and a trip to the Final Four in 2018. In 7 of his 9 seasons, he has led the Illini to at least 10 Big Ten wins. The conference is statistically proven as the toughest in the country.
The 2025-26 campaign was atypical, as the team finished below .500 with a 13-16 overall record in a full season for the first time under Tamas's leadership.
Despite this, he earned his 150th career head coaching win last season and achieved the program's highest-ranked road win against #10 Purdue on September 28, 2025.
Illinois Athletics has not disclosed the details of Tamas's contract.
