CHARLESTON, Ill. (WAND) - The 2024 season for Eastern Illinois University football led to a disappointing 3-9 record. It followed a positive step forward just one year prior when head coach Chris Wilkerson led the team to an 8-3 finish, a taste of what the future could be in the program.
As the team prepares for its 2025 campaign, Wilkerson understands the importance of creating a winning culture. Roughly 36 new faces joined the program this offseason, along with adjustments in the coaching staff.
With the season kickoff rapidly approaching, Wilkerson has high hopes for his team who feels that they have something to prove this Fall.
"There's so much transition that every year, you're assembling a brand new group of people with a brand new mission," the fourth-year head coach said. These guys have been awesome. I love this group. I'm really excited about this football staff."
Among the new additions to Wilkerson's staff include Assistant Coach/Running Back Coach Spencer Treadwell, Tight End coach Mason Keeler, Assistant and Linebackers coach Rodman Noel, and several others.
EIU's season kicks off on August 28th when they host Dayton. Their nonconference schedule also includes games against Indiana State, Illinois State, and a late season game at Alabama.
