SPRINGFIELD, Ill (WAND) - Former Illini golfers Jackson Buchanan and Luke Guthrie are among the leaders through three rounds at the Memorial Health Championship.
Guthrie heads into the final day tied for 6th place, sitting at -16 for the tournament after 54 holes. Buchanan, though a new face to the Kornferry Tour, is making a name for himself, tied for 15th at 13-under-par.
In Round 3, Buchanan birdied three holes and bogeyed once on both the first and second 9, shooting -4 in the third round. However, he played 27 holes in total Saturday due to weather postponing play on Friday. Despite a bogey at 15, he was able to get the stoke back one hole later and finished out the remainder of his round clean.
While the start of Guthrie's round was one he'd like to forget, the second half proved more promising as he attempts to close in on the frontrunners. His front nine included bogeys on Holes 1 and 5, with a double-bogey at 7. After making the turn on the golf course, so did Guthrie's fortune. He scored four birdies before bogeying the final hole to end his round 2-under-par.
There is work to be done for both golfers if they have hopes of taking the top prize. Alvaro Ortiz is paving the way for the field at -21 entering the last round, with a four shot advantage over the next competitors.
Buchanan tees off at 10:38am Sunday, while Guthrie follows at 11:38am as they chase down first place.
