Police arrest - handcuffs (C)

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - A 17-year-old has been arrested for a shooting that happened last month in Champaign. 

The Champaign Police Department arrested the teen during the service of a search warrant in the 400 block of Briar Lane on March 19. 

The arrest stems from a shooting on February 18. Police were called out for shots fired on Stratford Dr. just before 11 p.m. 

While responding to that, officers got a call of a man who had been shot who was in the 1600 block of Sangamon Dr.

A 26-year-old man had been shot multiple times. The victim was taken to the hospital and is still recovering from his injuries. 

Police said the man was in the 900 block of Stratford Dr. when the 17-year-old suspect opened fire on him. The victim fled in a vehicle while calling for help. 

Initial charges in the arrest of the 17-year-old included Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Attempted Murder. A second juvenile, a 16-year-old from 

Champaign, was also arrested at the scene for unlawful possession of ammunition. Two firearms were located at the scene and taken into evidence.
