Showers and storms return this afternoon

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) -

The rainy pattern continues this afternoon, but today we are adding in a chance for strong thunderstorms.

After a few showers overnight, Central Illinois will start the day with partial sun and quiet conditions. Temperatures will warm up into the mid 80s for most before scattered showers arrive this afternoon. The early warm-up and sunshine may support a few isolated thunderstorms by the afternoon.

A few thunderstorms this afternoon may be accompanied by strong gusty winds and heavy downpours leading to ponding or isolated flash flooding. Use caution on the roads today, and try to stay off them when rain is coming down hard.

The rain will continue overnight and into tomorrow morning. All together, we could be looking at a half inch to an inch and a quarter of rain, which would be welcomed after multiple weeks of little to no rainfall.
