DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — One person was hurt after their home caught fire in Decatur Friday.

The Decatur Fire Department responded to a home in the 50 block of Maple Court just after 10 p.m.

Firefighters said the fire started in the basement, and there was damage to the basement and kitchen.

According to the fire department, one person was hurt after going back into the house to find a dog and try putting out the fire. They were checked out by paramedics and refused further treatment.

All other occupants of the home evacuated before firefighters arrived, and they have been displaced.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but DFD said there were no working smoke detectors in the home.
