DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - School starts back up next week for many students. The Illinois State Fair gets underway later this week. Pumpkin spice is in stores, and coffee shops are touting their PSLs.
Today was the sixth consecutive day of below-average temperatures. Fall decor is available for purchase in some stores. High school football practice begins soon. Is all this a sign that summer is no more?!
Do not bet on it.
The Autumnal Equinox does not occur until Sept. 22. The state fair is ALWAYS hot and humid. Average high temperatures are still in the 80s through this month. Record high temperatures are in the 100s. The source region for our current air mass is the Southwest. So, while no record high temps will be set, above average is the way we go for the foreseeable future. There may be a slight downturn in late next week if a Canadian cool front can make it here before running out of gas, but that is not etched in stone. Even if it does, August will remain above where it should be in the heat department. Besides, we all remember sweating on the way to and from school at the start, right?
Enjoy the rest of your summer. Fall will be here soon enough.
Stay safe out there. Stay weather aware. Stay sweaty.
