(WAND) - Virga.  We saw it today on doppler radar, but what is virga? It's a meteorological phenomenon that refers to precipitation that evaporates or sublimates before it reaches the ground. Typically associated with rain or snow, virga often appears as streaks or wisps that hang from clouds but remain suspended in the air.

While virga may not contribute to surface moisture, its presence can indicate that rain or snow is falling from the clouds. The evaporation process can also cool the air, potentially having localized effects on temperature and humidity.
