DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Thursday's drought monitor continues to show improvement in that department. This is a far cry from when it was last abnormally dry with a small pocket of moderate drought back in August 2025.
More rain is needed, but caution is advised as planting season is right around the corner. Plus, it's severe weather season. The first round of rain arrives overnight and Friday morning from north to south. While thunderstorms will be embedded within the core of rain, severe weather is not expected.
Hit and miss thunderstorms may return for a small part of this weekend, but most of the time should be rain-free. The big concern is not one, but a couple rounds of severe storms being possible next week. For now, the greatest potential lies in the Tuesday evening to Wednesday timeframe.
Stay tuned, stay safe and stay weather-aware.
