2020 Temperature Outlook Zoom In AP.png

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Temperatures are expected to be well above average later this week, and you may be wondering what "average" actually looks like duing this late summer/early fall period.

Climate records indicate that average high temperatures during this time of year are around 80 degrees. Usually, after late july, average temperatures begin a slow but steady decline. With the fall-like temperaures that we enjoyed this weekend, we leaned below average. However, with temperatures heating up to midsummer like-numbers in the 90s for the end of this week, we are now going to be well above average for this time of year.

It's not unheard of to have a period of much hotter temperatures right at the start of fall, and since astronomical fall doesn't officially begin until September 22nd, the summer heat is still relatively normal. The good news is that these forecasted temperatures are still a good bit away from record heat, and dewpoints are expected to be mild around 60 degrees or less. Although these aren't your typical, oppressively humid summer conditions, it will still be hot, so make sure to hydrate, limit time outside, and stay cool when possible.
