ARGENTA, Ill. (WAND) — Folks in Argenta spent Valentine's Day a little differently this year, taking in the sights at the tenth-annual Argenta Ice Fest.
Olympic Gold Medalist Ice Sculptor Aaric Kendall held live ice-carving demonstrations, showing viewers his step-by-step process.
"To be able to bring it to our little town of Argenta — a town without a stop light. We have an Ice Fest, but we don't have a stoplight," Kendall remarked with a laugh. "It's a great opportunity for Argenta to be able to showcase the artistry of ice-carving."
Many ice sculptors carved different displays for the event, including Kendall's son, Wyatt. Kendall, who has over three decades of ice-carving experience, said he's proud to pass his skills on.
"That's the nice thing about the ice carving: it can be whatever you want it to be. It's a blank slate," Kendall said.
The event is organized in collaboration with Argenta in Motion in efforts to foster community spirit and support local projects.
