42nd Annual Astronomy Jamboree to be held in Argenta

ARGENTA, Ill. (WAND) - The 42nd Annual Astronomy Jamboree will be held in Argenta next week.

The free event will be held at Friends Creek Conservation Area on Saturday, August 8 from 8-11 p.m.

There will be live music from local musician Jim Hollis. Weather permitting, attendees should be able to see Saturn, Jupiter, and the surface of Earth’s

moon. Participants are welcome and encouraged to bring and set up their own telescopes.

“With the Conservation District’s telescope, you can make out the rings of Saturn and the Red Spot on Jupiter,” said Director of Program Services, Alysia Callison. “It’s amazing to take these tiny, abstract spots of light in the sky and see them from a new perspective, and we can’t wait to show people some of the marvels of space for the 42nd year in a row.”

There will be a children’s craft and hotdogs and s’mores for roasting.

You must pre-register online by noon on August 7. Space is limited.
