MONTICELLO, Ill. (WAND) - The Allerton Park and Retreat Center near Monticello received a six-figure gift to renovate a room in the property's mansion.
University of Illinois Communications said in a Sept. 3 press release that Ken and Sari Aronson are named as the donors and were said to be long-time visitors to the property.Â
The money will go towards renovations of Room 7 in the mansion, also known as Agnes' room, named after the stepmother of estate creator Robert Allerton.Â
The room is located at the top of the mansion's grand staircase, with detailed painted furniture, antiques, reproductions and other new pieces expected to reflect the history of the elegant property.Â
The release added that a pull-out sofa is a planned addition to accommodate up to six guests in the room.Â
Work on the renovations is set to begin this winter.
