MONTICELLO, Ill. (WAND) - Carle Health will host Camp Healing Heart, an event to help children and teens experiencing the death of a loved one.
The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, at the 4H Memorial Camp at Allerton Park, 499 Old Timber Road in Monticello.
Camp Healing Heart was started in 2005 by the Carle Health Hospice team, with the goal of supporting children and teens ages 5 through 17.
Healing Heart is free to campers, thanks to support of Carle Health Center for Philanthropy, and is staffed by 100 volunteers from Carle Health and the community.
The camp is designed to provide tools to children and teens to help them process grief while connecting with other kids who have gone through similar experiences.
The day includes therapeutic sessions interspersed with typical camp activities, like a hay rack ride, a climbing wall and arts and crafts.
The camp is open to any youth who have registered, whether or not they have a connection to Carle Health. More than 40 children and teens are expected to participate this year.
