CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The Champaign County Film Office is talking about how enhancements to the Illinois Film Production Tax Credit can benefit the county.
The enhancements are expected to boost film, television, and commercial production across the state.
The credit increases incentives for qualified production spending, and extends eligibility timelines.
Productions can get 35% tax credit on qualified Illinois expenditures, up to 30%, including local labor, goods and services, and more advantages for longer-term projects.
Filming in Champaign County allows for an additional 5% credit for Illinois resident salaries for productions filming outside of Cook, Kane, DuPage, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties.
The Champaign County region's infrastructure for the film industry includes multiple production companies, an indoor sound stage at Flyover Film Studios, background casting, and workforce development initiatives.
Mark Brown, Director of Event Services and Film for Experience Champaign-Urbana, said, "Champaign County offers filmmakers a mix of diverse locations, accessible infrastructure, and a community that understands how to support production. With the enhanced state tax credit, we expect more projects to look beyond Chicago and discover the value our region brings to the industry."
Film Champaign-Urbana, the official film office for Champaign County, housed under Experience Champaign-Urbana, will help productions with the process. Services include location scouting, connections to local crew and vendors, permit and regulation guidance, and coordination with municipalities and business owners for shoots.
Filmmakers and production companies interested in learning more about filming in Champaign County can contact Film Champaign-Urbana.
