URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — The Champaign County Sheriff's Office has announced the death of a correctional officer.
Correctional Officer Jennie Ashley died unexpectedly from a traffic accident on Monday. The office said that she was off duty at the time.
Ashley started at the sheriff's office in September of 2023 with years of experience in corrections. In a Facebook post, the office said she "made immediate connections with coworkers and even helped mentor some who were starting in the profession," and that she will be greatly missed.
To show respect, uniformed divisions of the sheriff’s office will be wearing mourning bands on their badges until the funeral has concluded.
