URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - WasteNot Compost and Champaign County Environmental Stewards have partnered to bring a compost drop-off program to Urbana at the Lincoln Square Mall.
The goal of the year-round program is to make composting more accessible and convenient for Champaign-Urbana residents. Participating residents will be able to bring all of their food scrap waste (including meat, bones, and solid dairy), 100% paper products, and certified compostable products to the site at the Lincoln Square Mall.
WasteNot will regularly empty the compost drop-off enclosure and make sure the material is turned into finished compost.
Access to the drop-off site costs $15/month.
“This program will allow residents of the Champaign-Urbana area to have access to a compost program that will accept all commercially compostable items like meat and BPI certified products. WasteNot looks forward to servicing and expanding this drop-off program to meet the growing demand for compost services in the region,” said Tommy Vaughan, WasteNot’s Growth Manager.
“CCES has been looking for a way to reduce food scrap waste in the Champaign-Urbana area for some time. WasteNot’s mission and business model is very closely aligned with our mission and interests. Also, WasteNot had expressed interest in servicing the Champaign-Urbana community, so it seemed like a natural fit,” said CCES Board President Dominique Gilbert.
WasteNot Compost will provide high-quality collection service for the drop-off program with their fully electric fleet of vehicles and exemplary customer service.
The program officially launched on February 24 with registration now open. Interested residents can learn more about sign up at wastenotcompost.com/urbana.
