Toys for Tots boxes at Spirit of Giving

DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - The Danville Toys for Tots chapter is hosting its John Zarn and Megan Montgomery Memorial Toy Drive Kick-off on Saturday, October 11.

The drive will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2300 N Vermilion Street in Danville.

This is the 78th year.

The kickoff event is named in honor of the late John Zarn, the local campaign's founder and longtime coordinator, and Megan Montgomery, who served as coordinator for Vermilion County in Illinois and Fountain and Warren counties in Indiana for the last six years.

Gabi Ingold, the new coordinator for Vermilion County, IL, Fountain and Warren county, IN, said, "This event is a special way for us to remember John and Megan, who poured so much of their hearts into this campaign. Their dedication inspired so many, and we invite the community to join us in continuing their mission by helping us kick off another successful year of bringing smiles to children's faces."

At the kick-off there will be a special appearance by Santa Claus, food available for purchase from the Low Life Kitchen food truck, a small petting zoo, and raffles for prizes, including a drone and gift basket.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate. Collection boxes will be available on-site.

Campaign volunteers will be there to help with sign-ups for families needing toys this holiday season.
