DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — One Decatur organization helped families across Macon County stay warm through a shoe giveaway Saturday.
Bridging the Gap Solutions held a winter shoes and boots giveaway at the Decatur Public Library.
Last year, the group gave away 1,000 pairs of free footwear.
Organizers said proper winter shoes are a necessity in central Illinois this time of year.
"It increases the quality of life in the wintertime, because winters in Illinois can be very cold and harsh," said Claudia Clark, an event organizer with Bridging the Gap Solutions. "When your feet are hurting and they're not warm, it affects your entire body, so it's very important to have events like this where we give away shoes to people that need them in Macon County."
Organizers said Bridging the Gap Solutions plans to continue expanding its outreach efforts across Macon County.
