DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) -Â The City of Decatur and the Metro Decatur Black Chamber of Commerce will host several events in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.Â
The events will start with the Art Exhibition at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at Gallery 37 on 3777 Woodford St., Suite C. This free event, which also takes place on King's birthday, is an art show featuring work from Decatur high school students.
Residents can gather for the MLK Jr. March at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Mueller Park. Marchers will then make their way to the Decatur Civic Center, led by Reverend Courtney Carson.Â
Doors for the MLK Jr. Gala will open at 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at the Mt. Zion Convention Center. State Rep. Will Davis from the Illinois 30th District will be the keynote speaker.Â
Finally, the MLK Jr. Interdenominational Church Service led by Bishop James Wills will take place at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at Kingdom Come Ministries at 321 E. Leafland Avenue. Keynote speaker for the event will be Rev. Byron Hansbro, pastor of Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church.Â
