DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Many WAND viewers remember longtime reporter and anchor Scot England, a central Illinois native who created the franchise of stories known as "Traveling Central Illinois from A to Z."

Thirteen years ago this week, packed up his wife and daughter and moved to the Nashville, Tennessee area. Specifically, Henderson where he got a job as an anchor on RFD TV.

He did that for six years, but his goal was to get into country music. He started writing autobiographies for country and gospel music stars including William Lee Golden, Moe Bandy, Johnny Lee, Lulu Roman, Jimmy Capps, Ronnie McDowell, Misty Rowe, Larry Black, Jamie Coulter and Pete Wade.

Now on December 5th, he’ll earn a unique title.

At just shy of 59 years old, Scot will step into a boxing ring with a 22 year old. He will become the oldest professional welterweight boxer in the world.

In a news release Scot said, “My boxing dream began four decades ago when I became friends with my hero, Muhammad Ali. The first time I walked into Ali’s living room, he asked, ‘Are you a boxer?’ I said, ‘No, Champ. I’m not tough enough for that.’ But now, almost 40 years later, I am tough enough.”

He told WAND’s Dawn Sterling, “I like that title, being the oldest welterweight professional boxer in the world.”

The fight is December 5th at the Troubadour in Nashville.
