SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) -Â The World Affairs Council of Central Illinois is holding its program "Voice of America" on November 12.Â
The event will feature speaker Steven Herman at the Illini Country Club. A reception will be held at 5:30, dinner 6:15, and the program at 7 pm is free.
The World Affairs Council is a civic organization dedicated to educating the public about U.S. foreign policy, global economic and environmental issues, and international politics through in-depth presentations and discussions.Â
World Affairs Council said, "Steven Herman, former White House bureau chief and ex chief national correspondent for the Voice of America, will discuss Voice of America’s importance, from its first broadcast during World War II, as it worked to counter Nazi and Japanese propaganda, through its broadcasting to communist countries during the Cold War years to its almost total shutdown this year."
The cost to attend the dinner is $45 for members of WACCI and $55 for non-members. Reservations are due by November 4 by sending to WACCI, Box 2233, Springfield, Illinois 62705 or online at www.mywacci.org.
